₹193.95 crore crop loan of farmers waived off

₹17.66 crore compensation is being disbursed in Virudhunagar
A total of 26,275 farmers will benefit to the tune of ₹193.95 crore following the announcement made by the State Government on waiver of crop loan got through cooperative societies.
Similarly, the process of depositing compensation into the bank accounts of farmers who faced crop loss during Cyclones Nivar and Burevi was under way, said Collector R. Kannan, while speaking at the farmers’ grievances redressal meeting held here on Friday.
Virudhunagar district has got a compensation of ₹17.66 crore, he said.
Officials said that 19 direct paddy purchasing centres have been sanctioned and paddy was being procured directly from the farmers. ....

₹1.08 crore compensation given to 953 farmers hit by Cyclone Burevi in Virudhunagar district

Compensation to the tune of ₹1.08 crore to 953 farmers whose crops were damaged on 548.043 hectares of land due to Cyclone Burevi has been disbursed in Virudhunagar district, said Collector R. Kannan.
Speaking at the virtual farmers’ grievances redressal meeting held on Friday, Mr. Kannan, said that the Department of Agriculture had given ₹ 24.75 lakh to 246 farmers who had lost their crops on 129.755 hectares.
Similarly, the Department of Horticulture, had given a compensation of ₹83.65 lakh to 707 farmers for damages to crops in over 48.288 hectares.
Joint Director (Agriculture), S. Uthandaraman, clarified that the compensation had come from Disaster Management Fund and the compensation for the insured crops would come later. ....

Members of various farmers associations staged a protest in front of the office of Assistant Director of Agriculture here pressing for a charter of demands, including immediate opening of direct purchase centres for paddy in Virudhunagar district.
The protest was led by Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, N.A. Ramachandra Raja, the protesters said that though harvesting of paddy that was delayed due to rain has started, the Government has not opened the DPCs.
“While the Government has promised to procure 71 kg of paddy for a minimum support price of ₹ 1,300, the traders were willing to pay only ₹ 1,100. Even that would not be paid immediately,” Mr. Ramachandra Raja said. ....
