Evanston Now Katie Trippi. Katie Trippi, 62, is making her first run for elective office in Evanston, seeking to become 6th Ward alderman. Trippi, who owns a condo at 2951 Central St., and her opponent, Tom Suffredin, were interviewed about their views on key issues by Evanston Now’s Jeff Hirsh. Trippi also offered the following information on her background and what she views as the key issues in the campaign in response to an Evanston Now questionnaire. Background I am a third generation Evanstonian who has lived in the 6th Ward for more than 30 years. If I am elected in April, I will be a second generation City Council member, My stepfather, James B Moran, served on the Evanston City Council in the 1970’s. His legacy is carried on through the work of the Moran Center for Youth Advocacy. My family is extremely proud of this Evanston institution and the work they do on behalf of the children and young adults of this community. ....

First elected in 2009 with 51% of the vote in a three way race, he ran unopposed in 2013 and 2017, but faces four opponents in the Feb. 23 primary this year, including two write-in candidates. Evanston Now The Evanston Community Foundation today announced it has distributed $327,000 in its latest round of grants to address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The Rapid Response Fund grants will provide essential human services to address homelessness, food insecurity and mental health. The fund continues to provide grants for immediate needs as well as recovery initiatives, and it is still $50,000 short of the $1 million Challenge Match goal set in October. “We announced a second Rapid Response Challenge Match and were very close to meeting it by year-end, thanks to the generosity of our community,” said Elspeth Revere, the foundation’s interim CEO. “Unfortunately, this pandemic did not end with the year 2020, and we are seeing continuing need, so we will continue to work to quickly meet our goal so that we can continue to support these critical initiatives.” ....
