Bill to lift Idaho smoking age from 18 to 21 heads to House

BOISE, Idaho (AP) A House panel on Tuesday approved legislation banning anyone under 21 from buying cigarettes or electronic smoking products.
The House Health and Welfare Committee on Tuesday approved the measure that will bring Idaho in line with the federal smoking age. President Donald Trump signed a law last year that bars tobacco sales to anyone under 21.
Supporters said Idaho stores are already abiding by federal law, but state law needs to be changed to avoid confusion and confrontations in stores.
Opponents said the law will limit local governments in prohibiting specific types of smoking products. Opponents also said young people age 18 to 20 and who can legally do such things as join the military or buy a house should be able to buy cigarettes or vaping products. ....

(Pending Legislation):
Senate Bill No. 405 would prohibit the state from mandating a vaccine that has only been given emergency use authorization from the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Bill was referred to the Joint Committee on Public Health on January 26, 2021.
House Bill No. 5401 would prohibit the state or any employee of the state from mandating COVID-19 vaccination. Similarly, House Bill No. 5402 would prohibit employers and public officials from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Both Bills were referred to the Joint Committee on Public Health on January 22, 2021.
With regards to exemptions from mandatory vaccinations for school-aged children and college students, two varied pieces of legislation have been introduced. Senate Bill No. 436 would expand exemptions to state mandatory vaccination laws for school-aged children. The Bill was referred to the Joint Committee on Education on January 27, 2021. Montgomery: The state on Monday launched an online portal for people to check their eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations and make appointments. The Alabama Department of Public Health said the site at alcovidvaccine.gov will allow those eligible to make an appointment if shots are available in their county of choice. The portal also provides information about additional drive-thru and walk-in clinics being offered. Starting next Monday, Alabama will expand who is eligible for the vaccine to everyone 65 and older, educators, court officials, corrections officers, postal employees, grocery store workers, some manufacturing workers, public transit workers, agriculture employees, state legislators and constitutional officers. Washington County seeks a return of vital historical documents


Washington County commissioners are being asked to back efforts to return an important piece of the county’s history to Jonesborough.
Ned Irwin, Washington County’s archivist, said the county is working to retrieve its very first property deed book, “Deed Book A,” which was sent to Nashville in 1897 as part of its contribution to the Tennessee Centennial Celebration.
The deed book was eventually moved to the Tennessee State Library and Archives, where it remains today.
The historical document is a 1830s copy of Washington County’s original deed book, which was created between 1717 and 1782.
“It is a Washington County record, and should be returned to Washington County,” Irwin told members of the county’s Health, Education and Welfare Committee on Thursday. ....
