NLC The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to National Assembly not to remove the national minimum wage from the Exclusive list. x Mr Uchenna Ekwe, the Head of International Relations Department, Liaison to NASS, NLC, made the appeal on Tuesday during the Public Hearing by House of Representatives Committee on 1999 Constitution Review holding in Enugu. He said that allowing the issues of the minimum wage in the Federal Government’s exclusive list was part of democratic processes. Ekwe noted that those canvassing for its removal were ignorant of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) laws and making a vital mistake. ....
To mitigate shortage, CIL and NLC to set up 46 new oxygen plants May 19, 2021 This will create an addition of nearly 5,000 oxygenated beds. To reduce the shortage of oxygen during the second wave of Covid, Coal India Ltd is setting up 25 oxygen generation plants at hospitals while another public sector undertaking NLC India Ltd is putting up another 21 such plants, according to a note by the Ministry of Coal. Coal India will spend around ₹35 crore on this ramp up, while NLC India will spend about ₹15 crore. The plants will be built at public hospitals and medical colleges across eight States, leading to an addition of 3,328 oxygenated beds by Coal India and 1,620 oxygenated beds by NLC India. ....

[File, Standard] High Court has ordered a prime suspect in the murder of former acting communications director at National Land Commission (NLC) officer Jennifer Wambua to undergo a mental test. High Court judge, Justice David Kimei said the mental assessment is to ascertain whether Peter Mwangi Njenga alias Sankale is fit to stand trial. The judge also forwarded Sankale’s case file to Kajiado High Court where the suspect will appear for plea taking on May 26. The suspect, whom police describe as a serial killer is to be remanded at Kajiado GK Prison until the said date. ....

This is according to detectives who spent a better part of yesterday at Ngong forest trying to piece together her last moments. A team from homicide section and Kilimani DCI combed the scene at Kerarapon in Ngong forest where Wambua s body was first discovered by a herder on Saturday morning. Wambua was reported missing by her husband Joseph Komu who was among the last people to talk to her the day she disappeared. She was last seen on Friday morning at the office where she was the commission’s deputy director of communications. ....
