The final book of poems from a Beat Generation legend, Mule Kick Blues finds McClure restlessly innovating until the end.
Mule Kick Blues is the final book of poems by Beat Generation legend Michael McClure. A powerful collection of new work written during the last years of McClure s life, Mule Kick Blues was readied for publication before the poet s death in May 2020. The book takes its title from an innovative series of homages to blues musicians like Leadbelly and Howlin Wolf, and evoking Kerouac s concept of blues poems. Featuring shout-outs to lifelong friends like Philip Whalen, Diane di Prima, and Gary Snyder, the long poem Frag ....

The Reinvention of Work, who was silenced by the Vatican for his controversial statements about Creation Spirituality, and today an Episcopal priest would combine rave dance with religious Mass? And who else would now attempt such a distillation of the world s religions as this book brings us? The Coming of the Cosmic Christ in 1989. Fox focuses on four categories of spiritual inquiry: how we relate to creation, to divinity, to ourselves and how we relate to the future. He sees these categories flowing through all spiritual tradition. One section explores issues of service and compassion, justice and spiritual warriorhood. Others discuss meditation, art, ritual and sexuality. Foxconcludes with 18 New Myths and Visions wh ....

"On the Road," "Howl" and Poetry as Insurgent Art: Legendary Bookseller Lawrence Ferlinghetti on the Beat Generation

On the Road. The book was an immediate hit and remains one of the key works of the Beat Generation.
On the Road was a fictionalized account of Kerouac’s travels across the country in the late 1940s. He originally wrote the book over a three-week stretch in the early 1950s. Kerouac typed it on a scroll, single-spaced with no margins or paragraph breaks.
JACK KEROUAC: So Dean and I raced on to the East Coast. At one point we drove a 1947 Cadillac limousine across the state of Nebraska 110 miles an hour, beating hot-shot passenger trains and steel-wheel freights in one nervous, shuddering snap up of the gas. We told stories and zoomed East. There were hobos by the tracks, wino bottles, the moon shining on wood fires. There were white-faced cows out in the plains, dim as nuns.
