Feb. 4 Last week an investigation committee of the Tourism Ministry recommended revoking the Everest climbing certificates of two Indian nationals who produced fake documents to say that they had climbed Mt Everest [8,848.86 metres] in May 2016, and imposing a 10-year mountaineering ban on the duo.
The fact-finding government committee had, after six months of investigation, concluded that the photographs submitted by Indian nationals Narender Singh Yadav and Seema Rani Goswami showing that they had reached the top of the world’s highest mountain were fake, said Taranath Adhikari, the spokesperson for the ministry. ....

A 2016 Everest summit by two climbers, Narender Singh Yadav and Seema Rani Goswami, both of India, has been officially outed as a fake. Numerous Sherpas and climbers were skeptical of the pair’s 2016 climb at the time, but the two were still presented with the customary Everest summit certificate from Nepal.
After an extensive Indian-Nepalese investigation recently determined they only reached 27,000 feet, however, Nepal’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation is imposing a 10-year mountaineering ban on both Yadav and Goswami. ....

Mount Everest is located in the Mahalangur Himal section of the Himalayas.
A couple who used edited images to prove they had reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain has received a ten-year ban from climbing any Nepalese mountain after being undone by some pretty basic errors. The first clue, according to
The New York Times, was that the flag in the picture was hanging limp in a place known for its wind ripping flags to shreds. Other clues included an oxygen mask not connected to the tank and a lack of snow and mountains in the reflections of their glasses. ....

New Delhi: Authorities in Nepal are investigating the case of two Indian mountaineers who allegedly faked their Mount Everest summit in 2016. The duo Narender Singh Yadav and Seema Rani Goswami were part of a 15-member international team managed by the Seven Summit Treks in Nepal.
Yadav’s name was also in the list of awardees for the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award by the Indian government last year. But his name was withheld following claims by some veteran mountaineers that the images posted by him were doctored.
“We formed an investigative committee two months ago. A report will soon be presented. We have not taken any decision yet and will be able to comment only when the report is out,” Pradip Kumar Koirala, a Nepal tourism official, told ThePrint over phone. ....
