Hospitals in the Seaway Valley are keeping the community updated with information about services, during what’s being called the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Winchester District Memorial Hospital issued a news release earlier this week informing the public on the status of its services, and on Thursday, Cornwall Community Hospital and Hopital Glengarry Memorial Hospital provided this newspaper with updates.

All are encouraging residents who have a medical emergency to go to the closest hospital that even as inpatient and other services are being juggled around to manage the increase in COVID-19 cases, their facilities are still able to deal with incoming urgent medical needs.

As Ontario announced the province’s third stay-at-home order and state of emergency, 48 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed within the Eastern Ontario Health Unit region on Wednesday afternoon.
The provincial measures will go into effect starting at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. For more information, see related coverage.

Of the 48 new cases within the EOHU posted Wednesday, 18 are in Cornwall, four in the northern portion of Akwesasne, one in South Glengarry, two in North Glengarry, four in South Stormont, two in North Stormont, one in South Dundas, two in Casselman, three in The Nation, six in Hawkesbury, and one in Alfred & Plantagenet. The health unit removed one case from the running total in East Hawkesbury. The overall running total of confirmed cases now sits at 3,614.
