Huffman, colleagues introduce Utility Resilience and Reliability Act


Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02) joined Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) and Rep. Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) along with
Representatives Anna Eshoo (CA-18), Doris Matsui (CA-06), John Garamendi (CA-03), Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) to introduce the Utility Resilience and Reliability Act, a bipartisan bill to make the national energy grid more reliable and resilient to natural disasters and extreme weather events.
“Public Safety Power Shutoffs literally leave thousands of my constituents in the dark and at risk. With wildfire season upon us, we cannot compound the crises California communities are up against with unsustainable power shutoffs,” 
said Huffman. “By improving the strength and dependability of the electrical grid, this bill will make sure that utilities are doing the work to provide reliable power and keep Californians safe.”  ....

From a Navajo reservation in Arizona to Flint, Michigan, “Thirst For Justice” is a story about how two communities on opposite sides of America confronted the fact that their water was dangerously contaminated.
The new documentary directed by BBC journalist Leana Hosea premieres with a free showing Saturday, March 6, on Bloomberg Quicktake.
The film is partly set in Flint and draws on experts from the University of Michigan. ....

Access to safe water must be a national priority for the Biden Administration. Across the country, people are struggling without safe water to drink, wash their hands, flush their toilets, clean, bathe, cook and stay safe during the pandemic. Water and sewer bills have grown by 80 percent since 2010, according to a Guardian analysis of 12 major US cities, and in a typical year, an estimated 15 million people experience a water shutoff because of unaffordable water bills.
