From Staff Reports The following statement was released by Superintendent Dr. Brian Ulmer on the district’s website Thursday evening. Last week, I had to make the painful decision to continue remote education due to issues staffing buildings. As I shared on Sunday, I want our kids to be in school. I know that many of them learn best in front of our quality teachers. Throughout this week, I have heard from many families and stakeholders about that decision and our schools being remote. December 10, 2020 The Abingdon-Avon School District went to remote learning after Thanksgiving and will remain that way until January 19th. Superintendent Dr. Mike Curry says that the board decided to move in this direction as cases both in the district and the community started to rise. “Our cases here were pretty high both in the community and at the school,” Curry told WGIL on Thursday. “So with the Thanksgiving gatherings and upcoming Christmas gatherings, the board actually approached me with the idea of this long-term pause.” Curry adds that the board was validated by their decision just before Thanksgiving several students had to be quarantined because of a single case. ....
