As per data shared by RateGain, the contribution of key cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad to overall weekly booked room nights has dropped by almost 12% from last year and has barely changed week-on-week when compared with the end of November up till December 21.

NEW DELHI: Recovery of business hotels in India is tottering with large companies keeping business travel out of their plans and continuing with work from home arrangements due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to industry tracker STR, Bengaluru and Pune seem to be the slowest markets to recover, with occupancies still below 26% for November 2020. Gurgaon, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai are a notch better with occupancies between 30 to 35% whereas Mumbai and New Delhi have just about crossed the 40% marker for November 2020. ....

With research showing that 70 per cent of Indian travellers will be more price-conscious when planning a holiday, hotels are offering discounted rates, complimentary salon and spa treatment, exotic gastronomical delights and anything else that can persuade customers to make a booking.
A study ‘Future of Travel’ by Booking.com found that 64 per cent of those surveyed were looking for special promotions, discounted tariffs, and attractive packages.
As a result, even large luxury hotel chains, hit hard owing to their dependence on business travellers, are prepared to do whatever it takes to bring in the punters to help make up for the pandemic-related losses. ....
