Nepra asks Discos to refund 26 paisa/unit in July bills July 13, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers, who paid higher rates in May 2021, will be getting refunds of Rs 0.2644/unit in their July bills after the power regulator maintained in its latest decision that the power generation cost was low during the month under review while the consumers were charged high rates. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) took the decision in a public hearing on June 29. And on Monday, it formally notified it. It is to be noted that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had filed a petition with the Nepra, seeking a reduction of Rs 0.1255/unit on account of fuel adjustment. It claimed that the actual pool fuel cost for the month of May 2021 was Rs 5.8067/unit, against the reference fuel cost component of Rs 5.9322/unit. However, the regulator has allowed extra release of Rs 0.2644 per unit to the consumers. ....
‘Privatisation of Heavy Electrical Complex, Jinnah Convention by yearend’ July 8, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Privatisation transactions of Heavy Electrical Complex and Jinnah Convention Center are expected to complete by the end of this year, a meeting was told on Wednesday. Presiding over the meeting, Minister for Privatisation Mohammedmian Soomro said on Wednesday the focus is on the timely completion of the transactions, which were already extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are resolved to compress the timelines for the transaction completion of the identified entities and putting an all-out effort to improve the efficiency of these public sector entities on the one hand and reduce the fiscal burden on the economy on the other,” Soomro said. ....
