More universities offer provisional admissions
More universities in the United Arab Emirates have eased admission procedures, much to the relief of incoming freshmen who have been anxious about their board exams that are either delayed or cancelled due to the pandemic situation, writes Nandini Sircar for
Khaleej Times.
Offering provisional admissions, universities have started taking in students for the upcoming session in September. Premier institutions are also extending financial support and scholarships to achievers who deserve them.
“Since unconventional times like these require extraordinary measures, it was deemed necessary to make changes to our admission procedure,” said Professor RN Saha, director at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus. “The idea is to provide a smoother transition for students to higher studies and that’s why we decided to offer provisional admissions which will be confirmed upon the declaration of the final results and pupils meeting the ....

Universities in Dubai will be accepting students for the September 2021 intake on the basis of their school-assessed grades and not the final Grade XII board results, which could be published as late as September owing to COVID-19-related delays, writes Nandini Sircar for
Khaleej Times.
Michael Lawson, regional recruitment director at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, said: “We recognise that this is an unprecedented step. However, these are unprecedented times that call for change. Therefore, to support our community of parents and students, we will be making admissions decisions based on school-assessed grades.”

Al Ain’s Rakhna is the UAE’s coolest place. Literally. The area has seen sub-zero temperatures twice this week, resulting in icicles and water freezing over. Fahad Mohammed, who is a co-founder of the UAE’s Storm Centre, has been driving down regularly to Rakhna from Dubai to make the most of the freezing weather conditions.
