GREENSBORO, N.C. Starting Wednesday, hundreds of Guilford County Schools students will graduate from early/middle colleges and traditional high schools.
One GCS student was accepted into nearly 20 colleges and received more than $500,000 in scholarship offers.
She did it during a family tragedy.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Middle College at Austin Peay State University held its 13th commencement Tuesday, May 25, at APSU’s Dunn Center. The Class of 2021 featured 60 students who received diplomas.
As the student’s names were announced, each walked across the stage, paused for a graduation photo, and then moved their tassels from the right side of their caps to the left. They were joined by their families outside the Dunn Center for more congratulations and photos.

Buncombe County predicts lower state testing scores because of COVID

Local schools anticipate students will not perform as well as usual in state testing due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s weighty strain on education.
Buncombe County Schools Director of Testing Steve Earwood said because “many students have had their education disrupted,” the district is preparing for lower test scores.
“The results may be lower than they would have been in a normal year, but it will be reflective of the learning that has taken place,” Earwood said. “We may find that the students will do much better than we think they will. We don’t know which is why we need the assessments to accurately gauge the impact COVID has had on the education of our students.” ....
