Yaphet Kotto the Black actor who portrayed one of the most beloved James Bond villains has died at the age of 81. Kotto’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, first announced his death in a loving Facebook post that was shared to his public page on Monday, March 15.
“I’m saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years. He died last night around 10:30pm Philippine time,” Sinahon wrote, noting the actor still had a lot of plans, including offers for movie roles with Tom Cruise, in the G.I. Joe Franchise and more. The actor’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, announced his death on Facebook, and Kotto’s agent confirmed the news to
Variety. His cause of death was not immediately available.
“You played a villain on some of your movies, but for me you’re a real hero and to a lot of people also,” Sinahon wrote. “A good man, a good father, a good husband and a decent human being, very rare to find.”
Kotto was reportedly born in New York City on Nov. 15, 1939, and started studying acting at age 16 at the Actors Mobile Theater Studio. He made his theatrical debut in a performance of ....

Yaphet Kotto, the first Black James Bond villan, has died. He starred in the 1973 Bond flick Live and Let Die . Kotto also known for his spectacular role in Alien passed away at 81 years old.
