WORCESTER The family of a Worcester woman who crashed into another vehicle while driving west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 in Sturbridge Saturday evening offered deep apologies to the families of two other women killed in the fiery crash.
Wrong-way driver Deyja Jackson, 40, of Worcester, died in the crash.
“I m so sorry with their loss . I’m sorry. . We’re all going through this now,” said Willena Rosemond-Lopes, 68, Jackson s aunt who raised her like a daughter. ....

A crisis in long-term care facilities that came to a breaking point during the pandemic is the topic of a new documentary produced jointly by the Pittsburgh-based Jewish Healthcare Foundation and WQED.
“What Covid-19 Exposed in Long-Term Care” will be screened for the first time online Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion with experts talking about what is happening in the long-term care industry, the challenges it faces and what it means for baby boomers and their children. PENNSYLVANIA, USA State leaders are calling on the federal government for additional support.
At this point, we just need the federal government to help state governments out, said Teresa Miller, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
That s because the Regional Response Health Collaborative Program or RRHCP has expired. The partnership between state agencies and 11 health systems across the state supported more than 2,000 long term care facilities over the course of the pandemic. It provides facilities with COVID-19 testing, PPE, staffing, and more. ....

Double duty: Gift cards help businesses, Pittsburgh's Jewish Community Center

Committee members Reifer and Gerson are encouraging donations of a minimum of $50 gift cards from local businesses. They can be from any neighborhood coffee shop, hair salon, toy store, restaurant, bar, gift shop, florist, bakery, grocer, or crafts store as long as it’s a locally-owned business, not a national chain store.
The gift cards will be grouped by categories to create silent auction items, which people can bid on here a week before the event.
“If people spend $50 in the community, then we will have amazing auction items, and the businesses will be supported as well,” Reifer said. “It’s a win-win situation. Many of the business owners are our friends and neighbors and for the past 10 months they’ve been struggling.” ....
