Vaccine Week: Sleeves up for Summer in Anchorage The Anchorage Health Department, Emergency Operations Center, and Mayor’s Office, along with community partners, are launching “Vaccine Week: Sleeves Up for Summer.” Vaccine Week will bring free, accessible vaccine clinics, prizes, and celebratory events to Anchorage during the first week of May. We’re going to #DoItForSummer. More than 120,000 Anchorage residents have already rolled up their sleeves and gotten vaccinated against COVID-19. All Alaskans age 16 and older are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly 50 percent of eligible Anchorage residents have completed their vaccination series and more than 57 percent of eligible Anchorage residents have received at least one dose. We are well on our way to having 70 percent of the eligible population vaccinated in Anchorage. ....

JUNEAU On Wednesday, Eve Van Dommelen will be watching the Alaska Senate intently. Van Dommelen is the policy and advocacy manager for the Food Bank of Alaska, and if the Alaska Legislature and Gov. Mike Dunleavy don’t finalize a COVID-19 emergency bill by Friday, the state will lose access to $8 million in federal food assistance for low-income Alaskans. The Senate is expected to vote Wednesday on its version of a bill the House passed in March to retroactively extend Alaska’s disaster declaration through the end of the year.
