Marcum, a science, Gulf Coast Ecology and Marine Biology teacher at Gulf Shore High School has been selected as the 2021-2022 District 1 Secondary Teacher of the Year. She is also one of 16 finalists for the 2021 -2022 Alabama Teacher of the Year. Marcum obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University, master’s degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan, and she achieved National Board Certification in 2017. The Gulf Coast Ecology class is a unique class to Gulf Shores High School. Marcum was approached by Principal Cindy Veazey about starting a new environmental class that gets the students out into the environment to learn science. Assistant Superintendent Stephanie Harrison mentioned the unique program in the reference letter she wrote for Marcum. ....
MONTGOMERY The Alabama State Department of Education announced finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year. Jeff Schrupp was selected as the District VII Secondary Teacher of the Year. He is now one of 16 finalists up for the title of Alabama 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year. The pool will soon be narrowed down to a top four and the winner will be announced in August. Alabama’s Teacher of the year will then go on to be a candidate for National Teacher of the Year. During the school year, Alabama’s representative will serve as a full-time ambassador for education and teaching profession and will present workshops to various groups. ....

Alyson Shields Over 500 Gainesville City School System employees will be vaccinated against COVID-19 by lunchtime Friday. The school system hosted a clinic Friday morning to get their Pre-K through 12th grade teachers and staff vaccinated, following new rules set forth by Governor Brian Kemp last week. Director of Pre-K Services and Migrant Education Program Donna Allen said she was nervous but pushed through. What really gave me a little bit of comfort was Gainesville City Schools, we ve been immersed in the community really since March, Allen said. We ve really been at work since we shut down. So being surrounded by the community wasn t so much of the anxiety, it was the personal vaccination for me and getting shots! But the most important thing for me was making sure to protect myself, my family, and others that we work with. ....
Orange Beach High Principal Erika McCoy has resigned one month after being placed on leave. Baldwin County Public School System Posted By Guy Busby BAY MINETTE – Orange Beach High School Principal Erika McCoy has resigned from the Baldwin County Public School System one month after being placed on paid administrative leave. The Baldwin County Board of Education voted Thursday, Feb. 25, to approve McCoy’s resignation. The board voted without comment on an unpublished list of resignations and McCoy’s name was not released until after the meeting. According to the agenda, McCoy’s resignation will go into effect on Aug. 31. ....
