Marijuana and Muslim religion clash as 2nd dispensary slips into Michigan town

Marijuana and Muslim religion clash as 2nd dispensary slips into Michigan town
Updated Dec 22, 2020;
Muslim dogma, marijuana profits, lawyers and politics have collided to create a municipal mess in the Detroit suburb of Hamtramck.
Early last month, Hamtramck’s first retail marijuana shop, Pleasantrees, to the surprise of nearly all, popped up in a former Polish veteran’s club within an earshot of the Abu-Bakr Al-Siddique Islamic Center’s frequent call to prayer.
As many Americans’ views of marijuana shift and it becomes more socially acceptable, some Michigan Muslim communities remain staunchly against it, as illustrated by the conflict in which Hamtramck is currently embroiled. ....

I believe some of this stems from a lack of information. I would like to take this opportunity to share information that has brought us to this decision.
First, it is important to say that the DORA is being created primarily to support positive economic impact for present and future downtown food establishments, restaurants and businesses.
One of the goals of the DORA is to help businesses with increased foot traffic and to allow for outdoor seating on our narrow sidewalks. At this time, restaurants with a liquor permit that would like to have outdoor seating are required by law to fence or rope off an area adjacent to their building. We do not have wide enough sidewalks to accommodate those barriers. ....

Alabama
Montgomery: A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit challenging the state’s mandatory face mask mandate, which opponents claimed is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins, in a decision Tuesday, dismissed the lawsuit calling it a “shotgun pleading” that makes a lot of accusations without organization or solid legal claims. The same judge in October had refused the suit’s request to block the mask rule, which health officials have credited with lessening the impact of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. The mask order, which was first imposed in the summer and extends at least through Jan. 22, requires anyone over the age of 6 to wear masks in indoor public spaces and outdoors when it’s impossible to stay at least 6 feet away from others. The lawsuit was filed by former Ala ....
