Local Lawmakers: Winona Could Benefit from Bonding Bill

(KWNO)- Earlier this week, Gov. Tim Walz proposed an off-year bonding bill for state public works projects.  
The governor’s proposal calls for $518 million in funding for roads and buildings. It also tabs $10 million for railroad infrastructure that would help the state add a second Amtrak line that would stop in Winona.  
Sen. Jeremy Miller R-Winona told KWNO he’s open to a bonding bill, especially the funding for the railroad projects. He adding the second Amtrak line would bring “significant rail upgrades that would really improve not only the safety but also connection times and delays we currently see in the City of Winona.”   ....

WINONA What a difference a couple years make.
At the first meeting of the Winona County Board of Commissioners in 2019, three commissioners who represent the City of Winona battled to seat one of their own as chairwoman of the board then as was recently ruled in a district court case against the county colluded with an outside organization to place biased individuals on the county s Board of Adjustments.
During Tuesday s meeting, the board voted to allow Commissioner Marcia Ward to continue as chairwoman, a post she also held in 2020. After Ward nominated Commissioner Steve Jacob for the post the nomination was not seconded Commissioner Chris Meyer then nominated Ward, and the motion passed unanimously. ....

AUSTIN Dr. Kurt and Brenda Potach of The Karl Potach Foundation gave a $60,000 gift to The Hormel Foundation to further research of the Wilms’ tumor.
The donation brings the total given to The Hormel Foundation from The Karl Potach Foundation of $711,500 since 2008. ....
