Resident David Eldridge in a letter read at last month’s Board of Education meeting said that Shelton Student Transportation Services employees told him about buses running with no low lights, problems with bus radios, a student left on the bus and that the company was operating without a safety officer. ....
Letter: Calls for transparency in handling of coming federal aid March 11, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail To the Editor: The federal “American Rescue Plan” stimulus bill that was recently adopted includes $2.6 billion, some of which is directly earmarked for Connecticut cities and towns - much of it is aimed at schools. Shelton is scheduled to receive $12,033,603 in town aid and $6,977,928 in additional funding aimed directly at K-12 schools. Unfortunately, given the City of Shelton’s total lack of transparency and fiduciary competency that has already been exhibited by our elected officials - one has to ask: how is this money going to be tracked and allotted in order for it to reach the correct beneficiaries? This is especially true with regards to our schools. Perhaps some type of oversite committee could be set up as a “watch dog” group to supervise the transparent distribution of funds to the intended city departments? ....
Letter: Mourning loss of Kudej, a dedicated public servant Feb. 9, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail To the Editor: We were saddened to learn Monday evening that Second Ward Alderman Stanley Kudej passed. The City of Shelton and the Shelton Republican Town Committee mourn the loss of a longtime resident, public servant and community volunteer and extend our sincere condolences to the entire Kudej family at this sad time. A nearly lifelong Shelton resident, Stan was an Army veteran and an American Legion Post 16 member where he served as treasurer of its baseball team. Stan retired from Allied Signal after 37 years and was a local 1010 UAW official in charge of workmens compensation. He was a longtime member of Shelton’s Czech Club and a Corporator of the Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley. ....
