Marcy rescue: Hiker with hip injury carried down snowy trail by Forest Rangers and others at night Updated May 18, 2021; State Forest Rangers in recent weeks were kept busy rescuing injured or lost hikers, along with fighting wildfires and doing prescribed burns. In one instance, a woman who suffered a hip injury after slipping on ice on top of Mt. Marcy in the Adirondacks had to be carried down the mountain trail in a litter during the night. The trail had two to three feet of snow and ice in some places. One of the rescuers exhibited possible cardiac symptoms and also had to be “closely monitored.”

Helping lost, injured hikers; fighting wildfires: DEC Forest Rangers to the rescue Updated 2:41 PM; State Forest Rangers have been busy lately rescuing lost and injured hikers, along with fighting wild fires and doing prescribed burns. The following incidents occurred between April 5-10. All information below was supplied by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Town of Pleasant Valley Dutchess County Wilderness Rescue: “On April 5 at 11:30 a.m., DEC’s Central Dispatch received a call from Dutchess County 911 about a 64-year-old woman from Pleasant Valley with a lower leg injury near the Mercury Trail at the Taconic Hereford Multiply Use Area. Three Forest Rangers responded and helped to package and transport the subject out of the woods to Pleasant Valley EMS. The subject was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.”
