Advocates for racial and social justice in San Diego held the 33
rd annual All People’s Celebration on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The nonprofit Alliance San Diego organized this year’s event online because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The celebration featured several musical performers and inspired orators. The keynote speaker was the Rev. Yvette Flunder, founder and pastor of the City of Refuge United Church of Christ in Oakland.
“This is the time, not only to exist, but to persist,” Flunder said, echoing the hour-long event’s central theme of ‘persistence.’ She added: “Racist bones still need rattling.”
