Amarillo reports increase of 92 COVID-19 recoveries Monday

In Monday s COVID-19 report card, the first report card of the week released by the city of Amarillo s public health department, a total increase of 25 COVID-19 cases in Potter and Randall counties was reported from Friday, bringing the area s total to 33,264 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Of the total, 459 are active, which is a decrease of 67 net active cases from Friday. There have been 32,116 recoveries, an increase of 92 recoveries from Friday, and 689 deaths related to the virus, which is no change from Friday. There have been no reported deaths related to COVID-19 since Thursday.
In a statement given to the Amarillo Globe-News by the city of Amarillo, city officials stated that Monday s report card marks the first time the Amarillo Public Health Department has reported less than 500 active cases of COVID-19 since September 2, 2020. ....

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo City Transit announced that masks will still be required when using City Transit services.
Governor Greg Abbott addressed small business and community leaders announcing that he was ending the statewide mask mandate.
Today the ACT announced they will still be requiring masks for those who will be using the city transit services.
“Because Amarillo City Transit is a direct recipient of Federal funding, we must continue to enforce Federal mask requirements until May 11, 2021, or until the Federal executive order is rescinded or modified,” said Chris Quigley, Amarillo City Transit Assistant Director. “All passengers and visitors must continue to wear a mask over the nose and mouth when using ACT services. Amazon Coming to Lubbock Means More Bus Routes Needed

It was confirmed on February 1st that Amazon is bringing 230 full time and a few hundred part-time jobs to Lubbock. Many of those positions will be at a facility located in the Lubbock Business Park, which is about a mile north of the loop off of I27.
That s great news for job seekers in Lubbock, but some of the folks who need those jobs the most need better access to transportation to that area.
There are already facilities out there that employ a lot of people, like Standard Sales, Republic National Distribution Company and O Reilly Auto Parts. But the bus route that goes to that area is currently extremely limited. With Amazon incoming, I sincerely hope Lubbock takes the necessary moves to ensure access to the area via public transportation. Certainly, many people in Lubbock own cars, but some do not for financial reasons, due to a disability, etc. ....
