Regarding Noozhawk’s March 3 article, “Green Bicycle Lanes Coming to State Street in Downtown Santa Barbara,” I live downtown and I’m appalled by the garish bright green painted sections being developed for bike traffic down the middle of State Street. Ugly!!! That’s the first problem; it’s not at all in keeping with the aesthetics of the area.
Second, let’s not encourage the rude bikers (not all) to go flying through that area even faster.
A third problem is that I keep reading that the city wants pedestrians to use the sidewalks. Have you tried that?! Even when it’s not very busy down there? We’re still in the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s impossible to social distance on the sidewalk in many places. Restaurants have tables there, wait staff is crossing through to the street, and many people on the sidewalk are not wearing masks.

Four other stacked parking lifts exist in Santa Barbara, said Rob Dayton, transportation planning and parking manager. Two stackers are already built, and two other have been approved.
With a parking lift system, cars are stacked through mechanical lifts on top of each other. Parking stackers can facilitate and reduce the cost of providing parking for residential units, making apartments more feasible to build, Dayton said.
The project must eventually go to the city Planning Commission for approval to split the lot, and allow an open-yard modification for the development.
Christine Pierron, the architect for the project, said the proposal fits within the neighborhood.

Housing and Development Newsletter We are especially grateful to La Arcada for having provided such a beautiful home for all of us, Hardey said. This decision was one of the most difficult that we have had to face during these unprecedented times.
Santa Barbara City Councilwoman Meagan Harmon, whose law office is across the street, used to eat the soup of the day with a side of cornbread, or sometimes the Cobb salad, on her lunch break at Jeannine s. The closure of Jeannine’s Figueroa Street location is a real loss for our downtown, Harmon said. In pre-COVID days, it was a regular hangout for me and for so many of us who live and work downtown a place where we were virtually guaranteed to run into at least one neighbor or colleague during every visit.
