January 2021 proved to have a few tricks up its sleeve, including a blizzard in Southwest Iowa.

Even with an army of Iowa DOT plows on the roads, Bargfrede said when it comes to putting salt on the street with wind and snow they have to get creative.
We pre-wet salt as much as possible so that it comes out with more of a consistency like oatmeal. That way it lands on the pavement and stays on the pavement, Bargfrede said. ....
