March 2, 2021 6:20 am A flying trade was seen at marts last week for finished hoggets with butcher, wholesalers and factory agents extremely active. Hoggets over 50kg generally traded from €150/head up to €160/head, while during the latter part of the week, top prices of €160-165/head were being seen at sales. 48-49 hoggets also broke past the €150/head mark at sales throughout the week as well, although many sold from €145/head up to €149/head. 45-46kg hoggets have generally been making from €135/head up to €145/head for good-quality lots, with poorer quality lots making from €125/head up to €135/head. 40-44kg have generally been selling from €120/head up to highs of €137-139/head. Even lighter lots weighing 37-39kg have been making from €115/head up to €129/head at some sales, with some as light as 33kg making €120/head. ....
The sheep trade at marts in general last week was steady, with some marts reporting an increase in prices, while others reported an easing of the trade. ....
SHARING OPTIONS: This batch of Texel-cross ewes which reared lambs as yearlings and are carrying two lambs each recorded the top price of €245 each. This batch of nine Suffolk x Mule cross three and four year old ewes carrying an average of two lambs each (five twins, two triplets and two singles) sold for €215. These four two-year old Suffolk x Mule cross ewes with three carrying twin lambs and one single litter sold for €218. These five Texel x Mule cross hoggets which reared lambs as yearlings and include four single-lamb litters and one ewe carrying twin lambs sold for €213. This batch of nine good-quality Suffolk x Mule cross two-year old ewes includes four twin-bearing ewes, two ewes carrying triplets and three single-lamb lots. They sold for €227. ....
The ewes are a mixture of mainly Suffolk and Texel-cross ewes bred from Mule ewes. The dispersal sale of 90 Suffolk and Texel-cross Mule ewes boasts an average scanning rate of 210%, with the flock also operated on a comprehensive flock health programme. Recent dispersal sales of top-quality ewe flocks continues on Friday 5 February, with 90 top-quality Suffolk and Texel-cross Mule ewes going under the hammer in Dowra Mart. The flock boasts high prolificacy and a high health status. The average scanning rate is 210%, with ewes lambing to Texel and Charollais rams from 5 March. Vaccination programme All ewes are vaccinated for both toxoplasmosis and enzootic abortion, with the flock also on a clostridial disease vaccination programme (Heptavac P used). ....
