Shawnee commissioners reject Whittaker project bids

The Whittaker Street project has hit a snag, being delayed a bit due to a decision by Shawnee City Commissioner to reject the three submitted bids.
Last month, Public Works Director Brad Schmidt brought three submitted bids to Shawnee City Commissioners for the city s planned Whittaker Street Rehabilitation project, when the item was deferred to allow time for assessment of the bids.
This week City Engineer Seth Barkhimer urged commissioners to reject the bids; the board chose to favor his request, voting unanimously to reject the bids.

In March Schmidt said the city had estimated cost for the project around $500,000 about $134,000 less than the lowest bid that came in. ....

Australian gas infrastructure company APA on February 23 announced a hydrogen pilot project to enable the proposed conversion of 43 km of the Parmelia gas pipeline in Western Australia into a 100% hydrogen-ready transmission pipeline.
This announcement is the company’s first investment under its Pathfinder Programme. “This is a tangible example of how APA is investing in a technology pathway towards net zero emissions by 2050,” APA CEO Rob Wheals said.
He said that Pathfinder will help the company unlock the innovation, technology and new energy opportunities, with an initial focus on clean molecules, off-grid renewables and storage. As head of Barnstable High School s new $1.2 million Environmental Science and Technology Lab, Michael Smith cannot wait to get to work.
Now entering his 18th year of teaching at BHS, Smith teaching environmental science and biology in the school s student-driven Environmental Science and Technology Pathway.
He also is collaborating with some of the region s most accomplished scientists – among them, Laurel Schaider of The Silent Spring Institute; Amy Costa of the Center for Coastal Studies; and Zenas Crocker, Barnstable Clean Water Coalition – to start a high school intership program.
The new lab opened to BHS students Oct. 26. A partnership between Town Manager Mark Ells, a water engineer who worked with Brian Howe, professor of marine science and technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and Supt.
