ISLAMABAD: Seven out of nine labs and technical offices of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) do not have valid operating licences.
Details posted on the website of the Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) show that the Food Testing Laboratory PSQCA in Karachi and the Technical Services Centre (TSC)-PSQCA in Lahore enjoy validity of their licences up to May 2022 and November 2021, respectively.
The licence of PSQCA Control Centre (QCC), Lahore, expired in July 2019. Durban â KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ravi Pillay has slammed the criminality of business forums who have stopped the construction of projects worth millions of rands in the province, declaring that provincial government would not tolerate the acts of âeconomic sabotageâ.
Pillay made the comments at the construction of the first phase of a R4.5bn chemical manufacturing plant that is expected to create 800 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs on the KZN north coast.
On Thursday, Pillay officiated the launch of Nyanza Light Metals Centre and inspected the progress of the construction at the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ). ....

The multibillion rand Nyanza Light Metals project represented an opportunity for South Africa to demonstrate that Africans could transform the continent from being a mere exporter of low value primary raw materials to becoming an exporter of value-added products, said Nyanza chief executive Donovan Chimhandamba.
He was speaking on Thursday at the launch that followed the commencement of construction of the first phase of the Nyanza Light Metals Technical Services Centre in March this year.
The Technical Services Centre would produce sufficient titanium dioxide pigment volumes for its customers to use in their manufacturing processes, while bulk volumes would be produced by the main plant coming in the next phases. ....
