Minister slams 'lying WASA manager', says major shake-up coming for 2021

A major shake-up is expected to take place soon at state-owned Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), as Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales moves to make the organisation efficient come 2021.
Part of the restructuring exercise may lead to job losses, a cut in overtime, an overhaul of the management, and will include the introduction of technology to detect leaking pipelines and low water pressure in communities.
The disclosure came from Gonzales last week, just days after a detailed report on WASA’s lingering issues along with recommendations to transform the beleaguered organisation into a productive and profitable one was submitted to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for review. For decades, WASA has been plagued with a host of problems that no government has been able to address. ....

Bill passed: Finance Minister seeks to oversee WASA, T&TEC borrowing

A Bill outlining amendments to borrowing powers for the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) was passed with amendments in Parliament.
The legislation, titled ‘The Miscellaneous Amendments (Powers of Statutory Authorities and Matters related to certain Boards) Bill, 2020’, was committed to a Committee of the Whole Senate for consideration.
According to the Bill Essentials, the Bill would amend Section 21 of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission Act by mandating that T&TEC obtain approval from the Minister of Finance rather than the President, to borrow or raise capital.
The Bill also seeks to amend the Water and Sewerage Authority Act by increasing the number of Commissioners on the Authority from nine to 11 and allow WASA to issue securities to raise money to meet financial obligations, subject to the Finance Minister’s approval. ....

THE Regulated Industries Commission (RIC) in a statement on Tuesday said it has begun the price review process for the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA.)
The first phase of the process starts with the release of the RIC’s Information Requirements: Business Plan Document which specifies the information which each service provider must submit in order for the RIC to do the review.
The RIC will then publish its framework and approach document, giving broad details of the process the RIC will follow in conducting the review. ....
