Centennial Circuit traffic trial postponed
The one-way traffic trial on Centennial Circuit in the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate has been postponed.
The trial was due to start at the end of February and last for six months.
Council staff are working on the logistics of waste collection during the trial and this is taking longer than anticipated.
Rob van Iersel, Council’s Place Activation Coordinator, said what looks like a simple problem to resolve is actually very tricky.
“The one-way traffic system makes waste collection on one side of the street impossible for trucks we currently use,” Mr van Iersel said. ....

Businesses and regular visitors to the Byron Arts and Industry Estate are asked to get ready for a one-way traffic trial on Centennial Circuit.
The trial will start in the last week of February 2021 and will run for six months to September.
Isabelle Hawton, Project Planner, said locals are aware that traffic and congestion are increasing problems and the concept of a one-way traffic trial came out of the development of the Byron Arts and Industry Estate Precinct Plan in 2019.
“As part of the development of the Precinct Plan we spoke to residents, business owners and people who work in the estate and feedback from them included a need for better traffic management,” Ms Hawton said. ....

Byron Shire Council will soon trial a one-way traffic flow in one of the busiest streets in the Arts and Industry Estate.
In the trial, Centennial Circuit will be one-way from the last weekend in February.
A plan to conduct the trial was set out in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate Precinct Plan and it is hoped this will alleviate some of the traffic issues on the circuit, by allowing better flow of traffic , the council said on its website.
It s not the first time a Northern Rivers council has used this tactic to address problem spots for congestion. ....
