Dhaka Als vor acht Jahren eine Fabrik in Bangladesch zusammenstürzte und Hunderte Menschen starben, entschied die Modebranche zu handeln. Neue Verbesserungen für Arbeiterinnen könnten aber nun in Gefahr sein.
Gewerkschaften und Nichtregierungsorganisationen warnen, dass sich die Situation von Arbeiterinnen in Textilfabriken in Bangladesch wieder verschlechtern könnte.

Dhaka (dpa) - Gewerkschaften und Nichtregierungsorganisationen warnen, dass sich die Situation von Arbeiterinnen in Textilfabriken in Bangladesch wieder verschlechtern könnte.
Der Grund: Ein rechtlich bindendes Abkommen zu Brandschutz und Gebäudesicherheit in Fabriken, das große Modeketten und Gewerkschaften nach dem Einsturz eines Fabrikgebäudes in Rana Plaza mit mehr als 1100 Toten vor acht Jahren geschlossen hatten, soll Ende August auslaufen.
Das Unglück zeigte der Welt Probleme in den Lieferketten günstiger Kleider. Bangladesch ist nach China der weltgrößte Kleiderproduzent. Das Abkommen namens Accord erreichte nach eigenen Angaben, dass mehr als 120.000 Sicherheitsrisiken in knapp 1600 Fabriken behoben wurden. ....

A swirl of billions, and a trickle of pennies. A great effort of science to control Covid, with wildly uneven vaccine supplies and patents and production gripped by profiteering billionaires. Huge subsidies for some in the pandemic, while others lose jobs or have to try to self-isolate with no or little pay and in crowded housing.
Where are the billions going? Who’s left with pennies? We need to know. We need to inquire.
The Safe and Equal campaign, which Workers’ Liberty supports, recently exposed the fact that workers in the virus Test Centres had no right to isolation pay at all, or only Statutory Sick Pay of £96.35 a week. ....
