Roy Christopher, Celebrated TV Production Designer and Art Director, Dies at 85

He received a lifetime achievement award from the Art Directors Guild in 2004 and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2017.

Eddie Hassell killing: Grand jury indicts suspect in killing of actor


A grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old on a capital murder charge in the killing of actor Eddie Hassell during a carjacking in suburban Dallas.
D’Jon Antone, who lives in Dallas, was indicted Wednesday, Anna Tinsley Williams, the Communications Officer for Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, confirmed to USA TODAY Friday.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Dallas Morning News report that Antone was arrested in November, just days after Hassell was fatally shot in Grand Prairie, Texas.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Grand Prairie Police Department for comment.
Hassell, who was born in Corsicana, Texas, was known for his roles in the NBC show “Surface” and the 2010 film “The Kids Are All Right.” Hassell was living in Waco but had been staying with a woman at an apartment in Grand Prairie, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. ....

The world was taken for a surprise Thursday, January 28 when the news broke that legendary actress Cicely Tyson had passed away at the age of 96. The pioneering Hollywood actress left a legacy of grace, beauty, and immeasurable talent after starring in television shows and films for over 60 years.

“I’m very selective as I’ve been my whole career about what I do. Unfortunately, I’m not the kind of person who works only for money. It has to have some real substance for me to do it,” she told The Associated Press in 2013.
Besides her Oscar nomination, she won two Emmys for playing the 110-year-old former slave in the 1974 television drama “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.” A new generation of moviegoers saw her in the 2011 hit “The Help.” In 2018, she was given an honorary Oscar statuette at the annual Governors Awards. “This is a culmination of all those years of haves and have nots,” Tyson said. ....
