Lismore's leading lights recognised at Australia Day Awards


 
Citizen of the Year: Dr Ian Cappe
Dr Ian Cappe has lived in Lismore for 34 years and provided radiology services to Lismore Base Hospital throughout that time.
He is currently the Clinical Director of Radiology and introduced interventional radiology and has provided highly specialised skills in this area, including in patient management resulting in minimal access removal of kidney stones.
 
Lismore City Council has named Dr Ian Cappe as its Citizen of the Year for his outstanding work including providing radiology services to Lismore Base Hospital throughout that time.
 
This has totally changed the management of Vascular Disease and kept Lismore in front of most other hospitals in the services that are available to our local population. ....

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Citizen of Year announced
Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer Darryl Hamilton has been named as the 2020 Blacktown Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Citizen of the Year.
Mr Hamilton works as the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer with the Mount Druitt Police Area Command, a role which he has served in for almost 20 years.
He also plays a pivotal role in the Breaking Barriers fitness program, which provides an important circuit breaker for Aboriginal youth at risk of entering the justice system.
The program has supported hundreds of young people since its inception in 2014.
After a temporary halt due to COVID-19 restrictions, the program has expanded under the NSW Police ‘Fit for Life’ initiative and operates 3 days a week out of the PCYC in Shalvey. ....
