End SARS: Killing of my father by police made me school dropout - Petitioner

A petitioner, Olusegun Olaosebikan told the Osun Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, Human Rights Violations and Related Extra Judicial Killings at its resumed sitting on Friday that the killing of his father made him to become a school dropout.
Olaosebikan, who approached the panel to seek justice for the murder of his father, said the killing also rendered the family wretched as tangible and intangible properties of the deceased were disposed of to take care of his hospital and other bills following the gunshots he received from a police officer.
Narrating his ordeal, Olaosebikan said his late father was shot by the police on January 1st, 2001 when he and the deceased were returning from crossover prayer night to herald the New Year. ....

Osun govt threatens to shut Steel Mill over pollution

The Osun State Government has threatened to shut down the operation of Prism Steel Mills, Ikirun, if it does not comply with the health and safety recommendations.
The state gave the warning on Friday during an inspection tour of officials of the State’s Ministry of Environment and Sanitation to the industry.
The officials of the state Government had, last year, conducted an Environmental Audit on the facilities of Prism Steel Mills, Ikirun, and Ife Iron and Steel Company.
The state government recommended that the Steel Mills should, among other things, install a Pollution Abatement Plant (PAP) to considerably reduce the effect of steel production from metal scraps on the atmosphere, environment, and human life. ....

End SARS: Judicial panel disposes 23 cases in Osun

The Osun Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, Human Rights Violations and Related Extra Judicial Killings, on Friday said it has disposed of 23 cases out of 34 petitions before it.
The chairman of the panel, Justice Akin Oladimeji (rtd.), disclosed this on Friday in Osogbo while speaking with journalists.
He disclosed that it reserved its recommendations as part of efforts to ensure justice and adequate compensations for all.
The retired Justice said the panel reserved its recommendations in some of the cases already concluded in line with judicial procedure.
Justice Oladimeji, who reaffirmed the commitment of the panel to ensure fairness and equity in all the petitions brought before it, said members of the panel had been working rigorously to ensure adequate compensations to those with good cases. ....
