Second skunk in Weld County in 2021 tests positive for rabies

WELD COUNTY, Colorado A skunk found on a residential property in Platteville on April 28, 2021 has tested positive for rabies. An altercation between two dogs and the skunk resulted in a veterinary visit and consultation with the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. The skunk was submitted to the Colorado State University laboratory for testing, and a positive result was received on April 30, 2021.
Public health officials are asking that if you or someone you know touched, or handled the skunk, or if any pet had physical contact with the skunk, to contact the Weld County Health Department at (970) 400-2290. Rabies is nearly 100% fatal if left untreated. Rabies can infect any wild animal, including foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes, and bats. Bats and skunks are the two main sources of rabies in Colorado. VDH COVID-19 Update: Numbers grow, surpass 8000 with five more deaths

Vermont Business Magazine While it’s still too early to know how the recent holidays impacted COVID-19 cases in Vermont, Health Commissioner Mark Levine MD said at Tuesday’s press conference that Vermonters can still protect one another by getting tested. This message comes on a day when the VDH reported a spike in case counts, which have surpassed 8,000, and five more deaths for a statewide total of 149. The post holiday numbers will still take another week or so to fully play out.
Meanwhile, the vaccine rollout has frustrated government officials as it has Vermonters. The federal government has not met its original distribution goals in Vermont or elsewhere. Still, Dr Levine said the state is doing better than nearly all other states in getting the vaccine and immunizing frontline health workers and the most vulnerable to COVID-19. The first round of shots, which requires two doses, is expected to be completed by the end of January. ....

Vermont Business Magazine While total COVID-19 cases appear to have plateaued and there were only 79 yesterday, according to the Vermont Department of Health, there were five more deaths for a statewide total of 117. The Moderna vaccine is already being used to vaccinate residents and staff of nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Vermont. In the meantime, the VDH is urging patience in waiting your turn and also diligence in adhering to COVID health guidance: wear a mask; keep social distance; wash hands; quarantine if you travel; and stay home if you re sick.
