A group of over ten Vietnamese members from an environmental protection community gathered to clean up the venue of Hung Kings Temple in Ho Chi Minh City on the death anniversary of the nation’s founding fathers, though their plan drew some unsupportive opinions from the public.
As many people visited Hung Kings Temple in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday to commemorate Hung Kings’ death anniversary, which takes place each year on the tenth day of the third lunar month, waste from their activities was thrown here and there at the venue.

Phu Tho province offered incense and flowers in tribute to the Hung Kings, the legendary founders of Van Lang - the first State in
Vietnam, praying for the nation’s peace and prosperity.
Legend has it that the eldest son of Lac Long Quan (son of Kinh Duong Vuong) and Au Co (the fairy daughter of De Lai) was made king. He named the country Van Lang and set up the capital in Phong Chau (modern-day Viet Tri city), beginning 18 dynasties of the Hung Kings.
The kings chose Nghia Linh Mountain, the highest in the region, to perform rituals devoted to the rice and sun deities to pray for healthy crops.

Beginning with the songs “Cong duc Vua Hung” (Hung Kings’ merits), “Linh thieng mot coi tien rong” (the sacred fairy land) and “Loi ru Au Lac” (Au Lac lullaby), the programme featured the images of the Dragon Father and Fairy Mother as in the legends, Vietnamese life from the early days, spring festivals, the worship of the Hung Kings, and the Hung Kings Temple Festival.
