Just a few weeks after its return, the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market is ready to scale up. The market, which was largely absent in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed May 1 with precautions that included allowing only about half of the normal number of vendors so there would be extra space between booths. But starting May 29, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, many of those spaces will be filled with tents for prepared food vendors and artists, who so far have not been permitted to participate. The Greater Des Moines Partnership, which manages the market, said in a new release that the total number of vendors will increase to 165 from 115, bringing the market to about 75% of its vendor participation in pre-pandemic years. ....
