Deal between 3 towns would dissolve Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District
Updated 4/12/2021 6:30 PM
The tiny Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District would be dissolved and its responsibilities taken over by the Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village and Des Plaines fire departments, under a proposal the three municipalities are considering.
The plan calls for a shared services partnership between the three communities and a November 2022 referendum to formally authorize the fire district s dissolution.
Mount Prospect, Elk Grove and Des Plaines would create a taxing district known as special service area to provide $1 million in initial funding. The money would be divided by the three communities based on expected call volumes to be handled by each.

Following citizen complaints and news reports about the quality of Des Plaines new rolling garbage cans, city officials on Monday said they want to investigate the problems. The complete truth is, the garbage cans we have now are not as good as the ones we used to have, 6th Ward Alderman Malcolm Chester told the city council during its scheduled virtual meeting. Maybe we need to take a longer look at this.
The blue cans arrived in February as Morton Grove-based Lakeshore Recycling Systems prepared to take over as the city s garbage contractor. Some 33,000 cans for garbage and recyclable materials were delivered to about 16,500 customers.
