Gill Boler -Malton resident and nursing sister Since moving to Malton 21 years ago I’ve played an active role in the community as nurse manager of Derwent Practice for 15 years – and musical director of many local shows. I’ve enjoyed working with people residents of all ages to produce entertainment and to support the maintenance of our historic places. I would proactively support the conservation of our wonderful countryside. It would be a privilege for me to work with a team – passionate about the continual development of Malton and the infrastructure to support it – and that’s a challenge that I would relish.
A family business set up in the 1970s is expanding to a new location. Beecham Pharmacy is relocated from its current premises adjoining Derwent Practice to the former job centre in Norton Road, Norton. Owner Neil Beecham, whose father Ian first opened a pharmacy in Malton, said: Over the years there have been many changes to the town and to the family business. The pharmacy that is currently at the surgery moved there from Yorkersgate in Malton about 12 years ago. Since then the business has grown, partly down to the growth of the town and it has got to the point where need more space.
MEMBERS of Norton Town Council have urged people to adhere to the current rules around Covid-19. At their monthly meeting, councillors said that with more shops and workplaces open than in the first lockdown, there were more people moving around in the community. Mayor Cllr Antony Croser, said: As a result it was felt that there is a need to re-emphasise messaging around the part the public have to play in combating the spread of the virus, especially around mask wearing in shops and social distancing in general. Ryedale has experienced fluctuating rates of infection in recent weeks whilst neighbouring districts have had continual falls. Residents of the town have been infected and the seriousness of the situation hits home harder when you can put names to cases. There would appear to be no way of knowing what impact catching the virus has on any one of us.
