Super-Majority of Virginia Residents Want the Freedom to Choose Clean Energy

77% of Virginians want to be able to choose their electric supplier.
66% of Virginia residents would like to see more clean, renewable energy in Virginia s generation mix.
66% of respondents expressed an interest in community solar as a new way to support solar development without putting solar panels on their rooftop (assuming savings of 5-10% on electricity costs).
Restoring Virginians ability to shop for 100% renewable energy would promote and expand the Commonwealth s growing clean energy economy and help it to meet its ambitious carbon reduction goals.

Renewable energy bills on tap for the 2021 session | The NM Political Report

The Legislature will be considering a handful of renewable energy-related legislation in the upcoming session. Here are some of the bills we’ll be watching.
Clean fuel standard:
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that a clean fuel standard is one of her legislative priorities for the upcoming 60-day session. The fuel standard would only apply to the producers of fuel, not retailers such as gas stations. The fuel standard would reduce the state’s transportation emissions by 230,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, the governor said in a press release.
Local Choice Energy Act: Las Cruces Democratic state Senator Jeff Steinborn prefiled a bill that would enable communities to source their own electricity providers. Steinborn, who introduced similar legislation in 2019, said the bill would inject more competition into electricity markets. ....

The way my day goes largely depends on the first few beverages I have in the morning. If I don’t have coffee, I know I’ll be unfocused for the day. If I don’t have enough water first thing, I know I’ll probably get tired mid-afternoon. And if for any reason I’m starting the day with alcohol, well, the day probably had no chance of being decent, to begin with. Drinks fuel us. They dictate our day. Our bodies rely on the nutrition and hydration that we provide it. Every year, I make the same resolutions as everyone else. I decide to try and be healthier, in an effort to be happier, and I’m already off to a good start. Instead of being packed like sardines into a little dive with other bar patrons, I’ll be home. I have a rare opportunity to wake up on the first of 2021 not hungover, and I’m going to use that momentum to feel like a health goddess all year (until summer, at least). ....

Lake Forest officials will decide today on whether their city should join a regional renewable energy agency, along with a host of others in Orange County that either recently took action or will do so this week.
But advocates for such a program are raising concerns about the Lake Forest City Council’s upcoming vote specifically around the mayor’s employment with a prominent natural gas company that some see as a major force standing against these efforts.
Because of this relationship, they argue, Mayor Neeki Moatazedi should recuse herself.
Moatazedi, on the other hand, argues her employer, the Southern California Gas Company, isn’t relevant or affected by the current energy debate and that she’s keeping an open mind. ....
