WASHINGTON â The Board of Selectmen, meeting Thursday, May 13, heard from Edwin Matthews, president of the Shepaug River Association, who addressed an agreement negotiated with Waterbury regarding management of that cityâs water system and its impact on the Shepaug River. Since the agreement was signed in 2005, the river association has hired a hydraulic expert every three years to analyze Waterburyâs performance to produce a detailed report to demonstrate issues such as water conservation. Mr. Matthews said the city wastes about 30 percent of its water, for which it receives no revenue, due to leaks. âThatâs a shame.â He shared a summary of issues and recommended hiring a consultant to defend the town and river. âWhat we have now is an opportunity to coach Waterbury into adopting water conservation efforts⦠which will be essential to saving the river.â ....
WASHINGTON â The Board of Selectmen, meeting Thursday, April 29, honored Frances C. Whitehead with a proclamation designating her 105th birthday, May 2, as Frances C. Whitehead Day. Ms. Whitehead, a resident of Washington for 81 years, served as a member of Washington Junior Grange, the 4H Sewing Club and the First Congregational Church Bell Choir. The proclamation said, âThe town of Washington is a better place because of her,â and was presented to her as a group gathered to sing Happy Birthday at her home Saturday. The board noted the resignation of Diane Dupuis from the Conservation Commission. They also noted the resignations of Valerie Sedelnick, Howard Rosenfeld and Nick Solley from the Economic Development Committee, thanking the volunteers for their service. ....
