ECP to hold debriefing on NA-75 by-poll on 18th

Top Story May 6, 2021 ISLAMABAD: In a significant move, the ECP will hold debriefing with regard to the by-election and re-polling in NA-75, Daska, Sialkot-IV, on May 18. According to the Election Commission’s Media Wing, the by-election was held on February 19 in NA-75, Daska and re-polling was conducted afterwards on April 10, as the by-election was declared null and void owing to the law and order situation and violations of the election laws. Similarly, a separate debriefing session will be held on May 19 at 9am in NA-249, Karachi West-II, regarding the by-election held on April 29. On an application filed by PML-N candidate Miftah Ismail, an ECP four-member bench, on Tuesday ordered recounting of votes in the constituency, where alleged controversies marred the poll process, which recorded a very low turn-out. Senate elections: Production orders to be issued for detained MPs

Ag APP ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser decided on Sunday to issue production orders for detained parliamentarians so that they could vote in the upcoming Senate elections. Sources from the Leader of the Opposition’s office told Geo News that production orders will be issued for those who were currently in custody, adding it was the right of every parliamentarian to vote. Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif are the notable detained lawmakers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He alleged glaring irregularity in PTI’s foreign funding, a charge now ruling party denies outright and says its accounts are duly audited every year and are transparent. The Scrutiny Committee meeting, hence, ended on a stormy note when the three members of the committee walked out when confronted with evidence challenging the transparency of the scrutiny process by the petitioner.
