Chandigarh, Feb 16 : A mobile app was launched here on Tuesday for city residents to assess their carbon footprints and steps to reduce it to make them climate-smart citizens.
Carbon Watch app developed by UT Department of Environment works on all Android-supporting smartphones. Apart from Chandigarh residents, others too can create accounts on it to calculate their carbon footprints, said Environment Director Debendra Dalai.
Dalai said that the initiative will help keep the city and the country at the vanguard of the initiatives to protect climate. ....

Peacock, 13 crows found dead in Chandigarh

As many as 13 crows and a peacock were found dead in different areas of the city on Wednesday.
Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT, said the peacock was found dead in Botanical Garden, while a carcass each of crow was found in Sector 38 (West), Mauli Jagran, Mani Majra, Janta Colony, two each in Dhanas and the PU campus and five in Campa Plot in the city.
Dalai said eight samples sent to the Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Jalandhar, to test for avian influenza had already been tested negative, while the reports of 13 samples sent later were yet to be received. ....

Over 300 city residents had shown interest in installation of solar rooftop plants at their houses under Resco model
CHANDIGARH: The UT administration has given its approval to Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (Crest) to move Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Resco (Renewable Energy Service Company) model clearance.
As over 300 city residents had shown interest in installation of solar rooftop plants at their houses under Resco model, the administration had planned to knock on the doors of JERC.
Recently, in a meeting under the chairmanship of UT adviser Manoj Parida, Crest officials submitted the status report, and accordingly, the adviser approved to file petition before the power regulatory body. ....

Sukhna wetland is spread over 565 acres. The catchment area of Sukhna wetland, spreading over 10,395 acres as finalised by the Survey of India, includes 2,525 acres of Haryana and 684 acres of Punjab.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) will make an integrated master plan (IMP) of Sukhna Lake wetland conducting field surveys, including avian surveys, Rapid Assessment of Wetland Ecosystem Services (RAWES) assessment, and socio-economic survey along with drafting of different chapters of IMP within 15 months. The survey will be completed in March 2022. ....
