PESHAWAR: The physiotherapists staged a protest on Monday, asking the government to provide paid house job opportunities to them.
Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands, those graduating in Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) warned to launch a protest movement for the acceptance of their demands. They recalled that the government had promised them to provide them paid house jobs but it reneged on the pledge later.
The protesters said that physiotherapists were provided paid house jobs in other provinces after completing education but they were denied such opportunities in KP, which had created unrest and disappointment among them. They deplored that thousands of physiotherapists remained unemployed after completing their education. ....

AMRITSAR: Amid an alarming shortage of medical oxygen, the Punjab government approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate an “oxygen corridor” with Pakistan which shares a 550km-long border with the northwestern state.
There have been at least eight instances of requests made by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and other politicians from the state, asking Modi to procure oxygen from Pakistan, whose city of Lahore is barely 50km away from Amritsar, reported foreign media on Thursday.
The demand to procure oxygen from Pakistan came after the country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan offered help to India on April 25. Pakistan’s prominent Edhi charity also volunteered to send medical aid amid rising COVID-19 cases in the country. ....

MULTAN/ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said Pakistan and Turkey have decided to jointly move the United Nations with consensus among the Muslim Ummah for an urgent meeting of the UN General Assembly to “stop the horrendous brutalities of Israeli army targeting Palestinians”.
Talking to reporters after saying Eid prayers in Multan, Qureshi said the entire Pakistani nation stand united on the issues of Kashmir and Palestine. It comes as President Arif Alvi wrote to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas promising Pakistan’s “full support” to help mobilise the international community for the Palestinian people. ....

PARACHINAR: Employees of the municipal administration on Wednesday protested and demanded release of salaries and pensions before Eidul.
Addressing protest rally outside Parachinar Press Club, the employees including Ghulam Hussain, Sardar Hussain, Janas Maseeh and others said that they could not go Eid shopping because they were not given salaries in the days while Eid is just around the corner.
They said all employees of various government departments were given salaries but the municipal employees were deprived of the same. They warned to continue their protest if their payments were not released.
Meanwhile, TMO Sayed Bahar Hussain said that they were trying to solve the problem of pensions and payments to employees. ....
