UK magazines remain strong
A new report published by the PPA in partnership with management consultancy firm Vendigital has shown that the UK’s magazine sector contributed £3.74bn in Gross Value Added (GVA) to UK PLC in 2019, taking into consideration both consumer and business media. Apple’s newly appointed MD for Nigeria on tech growth across Africa
Joining Apple three months ago, the company’s Managing Director for Nigeria, Teju Ajani has previously held roles for Google, and as YouTube’s Head of Content Partnerships for Sub-Saharan Africa. Earlier this week she joined a panel speaking at an Africa Soft Power event on ‘Technology and the Future of Participation’
, in which she talked about the new wave of tech growth taking place not only in Nigeria, but across the continent at large. 
“The market – and the digital culture across Africa – is finally evolving enough to where technology offers real solutions to real problems,” said Ajani at the virtual event. “An investor looking at the continent from the outside-in might say to themselves ok I have achieved success doing what I am doing over here, and I now see that the curve in Africa is an upward one. So can I replicate this success in that market?”  ....

On March 12, 2020, the Association for the Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), an umbrella body for the likes of MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9Mobile, released a statement that it would withdraw USSD services from Nigerian banks.

Why? Nigerian banks apparently owe the mobile network operators a whopping sum of ₦49 billion ($102.4 million), and both parties have been unable to come to a reasonable agreement. It gets even more baffling when you consider the telco’s report that banks owed them ₦17 billion ($41 million) in August 2020. ....
