Mention Balochistan and everybody and their uncle knows what the problem is. When it comes to the solution, the problem is restated. The latest on offer is from the top man in authority, or so he likes to believe. He lost a Baloch ally for making little headway on its six demands. As framed, the Baloch are angry. Before that, it was lack of development. The federal government would announce special development packages with great fanfare with the objective of mainstreaming Balochistan. Not many in other provinces feel any mainstreaming, nor an ordinary Baloch vouchsafes development. According to the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurements survey, 2019-20, the average score of districts in Balochistan in education, health, information communications and technology, and living standard is far behind the other provinces. Daily Times July 15, 2021 Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said the government is considering to bring in a new legislation against land grabbers to ensure strict action against such elements. Addressing here at the ground-breaking of various development projects by Capital Development Authority, the prime minister mentioned the rise of ‘qabza groups’ in Islamabad and the rest of the country, and stressed a forceful check against them. He said the land mafia is acting with nefarious objectives to illegally or forcibly take possession of immovable properties of people. He pointed that the improper proceedings result in bail of land grabbers and also the lesser penalty does not act as an effective deterrent against the crime. “The new law will help mitigate the sufferings of people fallen victim to illegal dispossession and ensure strict action against the qabza groups,” he said. ....

Daily Times July 13, 2021 As was expected, the federal budget for the financial year 2021-22 sailed smoothly through the National Assembly. The finance bill was passed on June 29 while budgetary measures have already got into action throughout the country. This was the PTI-led coalition government’s third budget, which was presented by its fourth finance minister, Shaukat Tarin–the successor to Asad Omer, Dr Hafeez Shaikh and Hammad Azhar. His full name, which is not known to many around, is Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin and he has previously also shouldered the heavy responsibility as the finance minister in different governments. The incumbent coalition government will complete its three years in August. ....
