Anyone who has worked alongside me in journalism over the last two decades will know one of my pet hates is the plethora of days that have begun clogging up the calendar over recent years.
I know many of them are meant as a bit of fun, but as well as many being incredibly cynical, I believe all this splurge of dedicated days has done, is take away from the ones that really matter.
Take May 12 for instance.
It s National Porridge Day, National Nutty Fudge Day and National Limerick Day, all of which sound to me like cynical events drawn-up by a marketing expert somewhere as a way to gain attention and make money.

The organizers of an “anti-lockdown” rodeo in Alberta that violated public health orders aimed at mitigating the spread of the coronavirus have been charged with breaking the Alberta Health Act. As CBC News reports, hundreds gathered May 1-2 near the community of Bowden in defiance of restrictions. The rodeo event was not sanctioned by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association.
RCMP confirmed to CBC News that Ty and Gail Northcott have been served papers requiring them to appear in Red Deer provincial court on May 17.
Meanwhile, other Alberta rodeo organizers are worried the unsanctioned Bowden rodeo could hurt the sport’s recovery with some saying the event made their sport look bad while reinforcing long-held stereotypes about Western Canada. CBC News has that story, too.
Oxygen: Release time and date for Netflix Sci-fi film revealed
Oxygen, which is set to feature on Netflix.
Oxygen is an upcoming American-French film, which is directed and produced by Alexandre Aja and written by Christie LeBlanc. The film used 3 production companies which are Gateway Films, Wild Bunch and Echo Lake Entertainment.
The premise of the film shows a woman named Liz that wakes up in a medical cryo unit, with no memories of who she is or how she got there. The unit has a voice named Milo, who refuses to let her leave even though she is running out of Oxygen. Fans are highly anticipating the release of the movie.
