The Yamuna has a longstanding history with the city of Delhi. The Yamuna is not only historically and culturally significant to Delhi, which developed on the banks of the river, but also central to the national capital’s visual imagination. It has been a source of life for thousands of years, providing drinking water, resources for food, livelihood, and even a breeding ground for many aquatic organisms. However, under pressure from forces of ‘development’, the river has been heavily exploited, becoming a dumping ground for anything the city cannot find a use for. Every day, large volumes of toxic effluents from the industries, sewage flowing through its tributaries are released, untreated, directly into the Yamuna, and construction waste and debris are thrown on its banks. Despite various rejuvenation plans and multiple orders by courts and government bodies, the exploitation of the Yamuna under the extractivist developmental regime ....

WaterAid Ghana on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, ended a two-day capacity building workshop for media personnel and other stakeholders at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra.
The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) that has been in Ghana since 1985 continues to work with a focus on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Factoring in climate change that is entwined with the aforementioned, WaterAid Ghana has taken a keen interest and as such has commissioned research to promote its advocacy work to propel government to adopt key policies. ....

Gov't committed to increasing irrigation services to boost farming


Chief Technical Director for Policy, Planning and Evaluation in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Yaneke Watson, says the Government is committed to increasing access to irrigation services in order to ensure a competitive and productive agricultural sector.
“The Government of Jamaica is cognisant that the role of irrigation and water management in increasing food production is essential and will require expansion of irrigated areas and improved management of existing water supplies,” he noted.
Watson was speaking during the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s fourth Virtual Information Session on Tuesday, January 12.
He said agriculture has become “the most important sector to our development”, noting that it is the area that will provide food security and “drive us forward”. ....

The government of Burkina Faso represented by Amidou ZAGRE, the director of the cabinet of the Burkinabe Ministry of Water and Sanitation, in place of Minister Niouga Ambroise Ouédraogo, has inaugurated a simplified drinking water supply system (AEPS) in the village of Kougsin, the commune of Sourgou, province of Boulkiemdé.
The construction of the AEPS, launched by Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, the President of Burkina Faso in 2016, cost more than US$ 194,624. The project was implemented within the framework of the Water and Sanitation Sector Policy Support Programme (PAPS-EA), which is financed by the European Union through the Sector Budget Support (ABS) 2020. ....
