Auburn: Auburn University’s nursing school is publishing a free book to tell the stories of some of its alumni and their work during the coronavirus pandemic. Titled “Auburn Nursing – Living the Creed During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” the book includes stories of Auburn-educated nurses who worked both in their hometowns and places including New York to care for COVID-19 patients. The stories show the difficulty of working in an overwhelming situation, said nursing dean Gregg Newschwander. “At Auburn, we often say, we make leaders,” he said in a statement. “In this book, you will see how true that is.” The university statement said the nursing school marked its 40th anniversary during the 2019-20 academic year, and stories began coming in about the work being done by Auburn alumni during the pande ....

A 66-year-old Rhode Island inmate with COVID-19 died, the state Department of Corrections announced late Saturday.
The inmate, whose name was not released, died at Rhode Island Hospital, the department said. He “had other complicating comorbidities that likely contributed to his death,” the department said.
The man was serving a life without parole sentence in the maximum security facility at Adult Correctional Institutions since 1988 for the sexual assault and resulting death of a 73-year-old woman, the department said.
The department said Friday that there had been 390 confirmed coronavirus cases at the maximum-security facility of the ACI, including 331 among inmates and 59 among staff, the Providence Journal reported. ....

COVID-19 update for Sunday: Hanover Terrace will start vaccinations soon

Hanover Terrace expects to start vaccinations for COVID-19 on Dec. 27, according to nursing home officials.
One additional worker at the Lyme Road nursing home has tested positive since Friday, said Martha Ilsley, the facility’s full-time administrator.
The new cases bring the outbreak’s total to 105 people; including 68 residents, 35 workers and two outside essential vendors, as of Sunday.
Three residents still are considered to be seriously ill.
“I remain very thankful for my committed dedicated staff,and also am so thankful for all of the community support that we have received,” Ilsley said in an email to the ....
