Dengue endemic disease of tropical countries: Doctors

National Dengue Day is observed on May 16 every year. Doctors say since there is no vaccine for dengue, the best way is to prevent the disease is to restrict breeding of mosquitoes in unhygienic environment.
Dr Amit Modgill, head of the Department of Medicine at Suman Hospital, said dengue was a highly endemic infectious disease of tropical countries and was rapidly becoming a global burden.
Precautions
Water coolers should be dried before stop their use after summers
Mosquito repellent and creams can be used
Anti-mosquito should be sprayed daily, especially behind curtains and below tables
Water from pots kept in drawing rooms should be changed weekly ....

Local bodies take lead in cleaning activities: Minister
Attention should be given to the prevention of communicable diseases even in the midst of the fight against COVID-19, Minister for Health K.K. Shylaja has said.
The Minister was presiding over a meeting on pre-monsoon cleaning as part of the ‘dry day’ observance here on Sunday.
She said National Dengue Day on Sunday was being implemented as a dry day on the directions of the Chief Minister. The government had decided to observe dry days frequently, instead of a single day. This would help in source-reduction activities to check proliferation of mosquitoes. ....
